Electric Heating Pads - How Times Have Changed

I don't know if you were like me when I was a kid, but I was raised to have a fear of electric heating pads. The reason for this was due to my parents seeing an electric blanket catch fire and nearly burn down the house many years ago. Fortunately, the fire was put out before it could spread throughout the house. It seems that ever since then, they would not allow an electric heater pad anywhere in the house.

It wasn't until I was married that I actually go a heating pad of my own. My wife had always been used to having them around. Her father had been arthritic and needed the electric heating pad to treat his arthritis pain. When I first got it as a gift I was a little shocked to say the least. My wife started laughing and asked me what was wrong? It was then that I explained the story to her.

She told me that electric heating pads and blankets had come a long way since that time. Today, you can find these electric pads that even use hot water with little or no risk. They are made better, and the materials are more resistant to flames. In addition, the electronics are much better and with all the safety features that are built in, the risks are greatly reduced. The pads are now designed to turn themselves off if the temperature gets to hot.

Even with that being the case, it took me a little getting used to . Old habits sometime die hard. But the benefits that an electric heating pad offers are enormous. From helping reduce arthritis pain to soothing those aching sore muscles after the weekend home project. They are an efficient, effective means to getting some much needed relief.
